Frequently Asked Questions
Always follow the specific instructions provided by your dermatologist or laser technician, as aftercare may vary based on the laser type and your skin type.
- Keep the Area Clean: Gently cleanse the treated area with a mild, fragrance-free cleanser and lukewarm water. Pat dry with a clean, soft towel
- Apply Soothing Products: Use a hydrogel, gentle moisturizer or healing ointment. We prefer aloe vera or Mad Rabbit Repair Gel to keep the skin hydrated and protected
- Avoid Touching or Scratching: Do not pick, scratch, or rub the treated area to prevent irritation or infection.
- Protect from Heat: Avoid hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, or excessive heat exposure, as the skin will be sensitive.
- Sun Protection: Apply a broad-spectrum mineral based sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) daily, even if indoors, to protect the treated area from UV exposure. Reapply every 2 hours if outdoors. Wear protective clothing or a wide-brimmed hat for added coverage
- Avoid Sun Exposure: Minimize direct sunlight, especially between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., as UV rays can cause hyperpigmentation or delay healing
- Skip Harsh Products: Avoid exfoliants, retinoids, acids (e.g., glycolic or salicylic acid), or abrasive scrubs, as these can irritate the skin
- Redness and Swelling: Mild redness or swelling is normal and should subside within a few days. Apply a cool compress (not ice directly) for 10–15 minutes to reduce discomfort
- Crusting or Scabbing: If scabs form, do not pick them. Keep the area moisturized to promote natural healing
- Temporary Darkening: Treated spots may temporarily darken before fading. This is normal and typically resolves within 7–14 days.
- Moisturize Regularly: Continue using a fragrance-free moisturizer to support skin barrier recovery.
- Monitor Healing: Watch for signs of infection (e.g., excessive redness, pus, or severe pain). Contact your provider if these occur.
- Follow-Up Appointments: Attend any scheduled follow-ups to assess results and determine if additional treatments are needed
- Strenuous Exercise: Avoid heavy workouts or activities that cause excessive sweating for 48–72 hours to prevent irritation
- Swimming: Stay out of pools, hot tubs, or natural bodies of water for at least 1 week to reduce infection risk
- Makeup: Avoid applying makeup to the treated area for 24–48 hours or as advised by your provider
- Persistent or worsening redness, swelling, or pain beyond 3–5 days.
- Signs of infection, such as warmth, pus, or fever.
- Unexpected changes in skin texture or pigmentation
- Pigmentation may take 1–2 weeks to fade, with full results visible in 4–6 weeks
- Multiple sessions may be required for optimal results, depending on the severity of pigmentation
